Let’s talk about Officer Sherman
Here’s why I love what the writers are doing with Ben, while being so disappointed in what Ben is doing (just want to be clear about that distinction): this is who Ben was always going to be. And I fucking love that they didn’t avoid that, or soften it, because they know know much we don’t want him to be That Guy.
100% worth a reblog here. This is exactly how I feel about Sherman’s four-season arc on this show, and I imagine it’s what a lot of the followers here are thinking, too. Am I right?
I may have teared up a little while reading this, because it is so true. As much as I find Ben Sherman’s actions terrible and I want to dislike him, because he’s taking the wrong road, Ben McKenzie just won’t let me.
I honestly don’t think Ben gets enough praise, for Southland or even The OC, where he was just as good. Also Junebug, just mentioning that gives me a strange feeling in my stomach because of the specific part talked about by the OP. I’m pretty sure I’ve only watched it once, mostly because of that.

When Sherman wants to get it on with a sexy rookie, he acts exactly like Cooper.
To be clear, when Sherman wants to sleep with someone, he thinks the correct course of action is to call them Boot, tell them to “Look sharp, act sharp, be sharp,” and generally act like an asshole.
To be completely clear, Sherman is under the impression that is an effective way to flirt with someone.
LOL…but he’s hot, so he can get away with it.
